Research Abstract Poster Presentations

Research is crucial for advancing home and alternate site infusion – share yours during NHIA’s 2025 Annual Conference. Research abstracts for posters that address the complexities of home infusion and specialty pharmacy are being accepted now. Clinical and non-clinical industry-related presentations are welcome. Research in home and alternate site infusion is extremely important to our industry — NHIA applauds your desire to develop and implement research that ultimately helps to improve patient care in these unique care settings. Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award

NHIF awards a $1000 scholarship to the individual practitioner author who submits an abstract that best meets the criteria set below.

In addition to the cash award, the winning author will receive support for developing a manuscript for publication in Infusion Journal, as well as complimentary registration to the NHIA Annual Conference.

Finalists for the NHIF Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award will be invited to give a short presentation providing an overview of the research project and summarizing their findings during a live webinar prior to the conference. Finalists must be available to participate in this abstract presentation session to be eligible for the award. Industry abstract submissions are not eligible for the NHIF award program.

Suggested topics

NHIF’s Infusion Journal provides resources on suggested research topics, including investigative questions within various categories from clinical to revenue cycle.  

Quick reference list of potential research topics: 

Clinical best practice guidelines, reimbursement/revenue cycle, admission procedures, sterile compounding, business development/sales, strategic planning, leadership, quality/outcomes, case studies, strategies to manage cost, supply chain management, specialty pharmacy, infusion suites,  home infusion nursing, human resources, safety, business diversification, patient care models, hospital at home, performance improvement, virtual technology use, training and education, performance improvement strategies, models, and success stories, vascular access device management, patient education, promoting a culture of safety, alternative medicine, parenteral and enteral nutrition, pharmacy technician related topics, and employee satisfaction.

Criteria for acceptance

  • Abstract must include clear purpose statement, list of methods, results, outcomes and discussion, and strong conclusion.
  • Abstract must clearly articulate relevance to the industry and identify sources used and the findings’ importance to advancing home and specialty infusion. 
  • At least one author from the poster must be registered to attend the NHIA Annual Conference and be available to discuss the poster during the moderated session. 
  • In the event an author received acceptance for multiple posters, a different individual must present each poster during the moderated poster session time. An author may not simultaneously lead discussion for more than one poster in the display. 

Requirements for accepted posters

Requirement 1

At least one author from the poster must register to attend the NHIA Annual Conference.

Once your poster has been approved you will receive the display criteria. Posters found to be in violation of these criteria are subject to have their submission not shared during the conference.

At least one author, preferably the lead author is required to attend the conference and present the poster during scheduled hours in our Exhibit Hall.

General guidelines and information for submission

Your abstract (and eventually your poster) should strive to keep it simple—in clear, jargon-free terms your abstract must explain:

  • The problem in mind (what’s the question?) and its significance (why should we care?)
  • How your particular project addresses the problem (what’s your strategy?)
  • The research study performed or actions taken (what did you actually do?)
  • The results obtained (what did you actually find?)
  • The conclusions (what did you think it all means?)
  • Abstract length should not exceed 750 words 

You are required to complete a Disclosure Declaration form for each submission. You will be asked to fill in this form with specific details regarding the submission. 

Once you submit, your abstract will then be reviewed by our education team and feedback will be provided. You should make changes to your abstract based on the feedback and resubmit for final approval. DO NOT create your poster until you have received final approval from NHIA. Submissions will be notified of acceptance no later than December 18, 2024. 

Newer to research?

NHIF has developed a new continuing education program to help! The NHIF Research Training Certificate Program for Independent Researchers is a deep dive into developing and completing a research project. The program provides the basic skills necessary to plan and execute a research initiative with minimum assistance. The program, which is accredited for 5 hours of continuing education credit for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, and dietitians, will walk you through: 

  • Determining a research topic
  • Performing a literature search and how to analyze that literature
  • Developing the study rationale
  • Writing the purpose statement
  • What research methods to use
  • The process of data collecting, coding, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Abstract must include clear purpose statement, list of methods, results, outcomes and discussion, and strong conclusion.
  • Abstract must clearly articulate relevance to the industry and identify sources used and the findings’ importance to advancing home and specialty infusion.
  • Select a topic that:
    • Examines an innovative approach to clinical practice, identifies a best practice, or improves quality.
    • Employs an effective study design / methodology to achieve results.
    • Has the ability for expansion into a larger study.
  • Poster abstracts are limited to a total of 750 words, not including title.

  • Complete account profile, then click “Create Account”
  • You will automatically be brought to the portal where you can create a new abstract.
  • Click “Create an Abstract” and complete required information.
  • You will also receive an email with your unique log in credentials.

Your abstract will then be review by our education team and feedback will be provided. You should make change to your abstract based on the feedback and resubmit for final approval. DO NOT create your poster until you have received final approval from NHIA.
